Poem #462
English Translation
Persian
O smiling one, whose teeth are pearls in line
O Lord, how fits the moon's curve, so divine!
Your union's image cheats me with delight
what form will fancy paint within the night?
Bring wine! Though black my record may appear
God's grace is endless; why should sinners fear?
Cupbearer, bring the cup! Drag me from prayer
let me roam wild, a drunkard free from care.
Four things seek out, if you represent the wise
safe wine, true love, a nook hidden from eyes.
Since Fortune's wheel is never fixed or still
Hafez, drink wine, and let the heavens will.
In Asaf's age, the heart's cup sparkles bright
rise, pour the wine, purer than morning light.
Ancestral glory shines through deed and trust
O Lord, may this high rank be free from dust.
Light of the throne, where glory's suns ascend
proof of the realm, the nation's steadfast friend.
