Poem #394

Poem #394

English Translation

Persian

O you whose moon-like face is the fresh spring of beauty

your mole and down are the center and orbit of all grace.

In your languid, intoxicated eye, the spell of magic lies hidden

in your restless tress, the repose of beauty is found.

No moon has ever shone like you from the zodiac of goodness

no cypress like your stature has ever risen from beauty's stream.

The covenant of love became pleasant through your charm

the age of beauty became fortunate through your grace.

From the trap of your tress and the grain of your mole

not a single bird of the heart in the world has remained un-captured.

The nurse of Nature, from the very soul of life

always nurtures you with tenderness in the lap of Beauty.

The violet around your lip is fresh and moist

because it drinks the Water of Life from the stream of your beauty.

Hafez, cut off all desire to see your equal

for in the land of beauty, there is no one but you.
