Poem #384
English Translation
Persian
I burn in your absence; turn your face from cruelty
separation is our plague; O Lord, turn this calamity away!
The moon displays its glory on the green steed of the sky
before it rises high, turn the reins of your courser.
Scatter your locks, and in spite of the hyacinth
dance through the garden like the morning breeze.
Walk forth intoxicated, plunderer of reason and faith
break the hat on your head, and let the robe swirl around you.
O Light of the Drunkards' eyes, in the very eye of my waiting
play a sad tune on the harp, or pass the cup around.
Time forever writes a lovely line upon her cheek
O Lord, turn the evil decree away from our friend.
Hafez, your fortune from the fair ones is but this
if you are not content, then pray to turn the decree of Fate.
