Last night I vowed to drive her image from my head
'Where are the chains to bind this madman?' Reason said.
دوش سودایِ رُخَش گفتم ز سر بیرون کُنَم
گفت کو زنجیر؟ تا تدبیرِ این مجنون کُنَم
I called her cypress-tall; she turned away in ire
friends, my beloved takes offense at truth's desire.
قامتش را سرو گفتم، سر کشید از من به خشم
دوستان از راست می‌رَنجَد نِگارم، چون کنم؟
Forgive my thoughtless word, O Heart's Delight
show me some grace, and set my verses right.
نکته ناسنجیده گفتم دلبرا معذور دار
عشوه‌ای فرمای تا من طبع را موزون کنم
Pale-faced I bear the weight of her delicate disdain
Cupbearer, bring the wine to flush my cheek again.
زردرویی می‌کَشَم زان طبعِ نازک، بی‌گناه
ساقیا جامی بده تا چهره را گُلگون کنم
O Breeze of Layla's home, how long must I endure?
I'll wreck this house and make my tears a river pure.
ای نسیمِ منزلِ لیلی خدا را تا به کی
رَبع را برهم زنم، اَطلال را جیحون کنم
I found the path to Beauty's treasure, endless, deep
now a hundred beggars like myself like Kings I keep.
من که رَه بُردم به گنجِ حُسنِ بی‌پایان دوست
صد گدایِ همچو خود را بعد از این قارون کنم
O Moon of Fortune, keep your servant in your sight
that I may pray for your increasing beauty's light.
ای مَهِ صاحب قران، از بنده حافظ یاد کن
تا دعایِ دولتِ آن حُسنِ روزافزون کنم
