Poem #274
English Translation
Persian
Take the cup in the tulip's circle and be without hypocrisy
for a breath, be a companion to the morning breeze in the rose's scent.
I do not tell you to worship wine all year round
drink wine for three months, and for nine months be pious.
When the Elder of your love's journey directs you to wine
drink and wait for God's mercy.
If you desire to reach the secret of the unseen like Jamshid
come and be a companion to the world-showing cup.
Though the world's work is closed like a bud
you be knot-opening like the spring breeze.
Do not seek fidelity from anyone, if you will not listen
do not be a vain seeker of the Simurgh and alchemy.
Do not become a disciple of the strangers' obedience, Hafez
but be a companion to the pious libertines.
